Operator
Daymend is operated by Jon Anders Conrad Jonsson, based in Sweden, who is the controller of your personal data under GDPR. If you have questions about this policy, or want to access, correct, export, or delete your data, contact us using the details at the end of this page.
What we collect
When you create an account, we collect your email address, your name, and authentication provider (Apple or Google). As you use the app, we collect your reading history, story interactions (hearts, shares, skips), reading streaks, notification preferences, timezone, and device language. You can also log an optional mood before and after reading. Your before-reading mood stays on your device until you complete the check-in; we then store both moods linked to your account. If you send feedback or report a story, we store the message you write, linked to your account. If you answer the optional question about how you found Daymend, we record the answer you picked from the list, linked to your account like the rest of our product analytics. We collect your device's push notification token to deliver daily story notifications. Our servers also process your IP address to apply rate limits and keep the service secure. Your account identifier and email are shared with our analytics and crash-reporting providers so we can measure usage and diagnose errors, as described below. Supabase's infrastructure logs also retain approximate location, such as city or region, inferred from your IP address for security and service operation. We do not request GPS location.
How we use your data
We use your data to deliver your daily stories, track your reading progress and streak, personalize your experience based on category preferences, and send push notifications at your chosen time. We use PostHog (hosted in the EU) for product analytics so we can understand how the app is used and improve it. These analytics are linked to your account so we can measure things like retention, but we never use them to advertise to you. PostHog also gets aggregate, non-identifying counts from our database, such as how many people finished their stories on a given day, with any count under five left out. We use Sentry for crash and error reports so we can fix bugs. We will never sell your data or share it with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
Website analytics
On daymend.com, we use PostHog (hosted in the EU) for limited website analytics. For each page visit, PostHog processes the page URL without its query string and browser, device, and temporary session metadata. Pageviews within the current loaded visit can be linked, but the identifier is not retained after a full page reload or a later browser visit. If you follow an App Store or Google Play link, we also send the locale selected on the site, which store the link leads to, and where the link appeared. We use this information to count page visits and store link clicks and improve the site. Website analytics are configured separately from the app. Links we post ourselves, for example on Reddit or in a press article, and links the Daymend app creates when someone shares a story can carry a short label for where the link came from, such as ref=reddit. If you arrive through one, we record that label, which always comes from our own fixed list, and nothing else from the link. Apart from that label, we send PostHog no cookies or campaign parameters, never tell it which site or page you came from, and instruct it not to derive location from your IP address. We do record one broad category for how you reached the site, such as search or social, worked out in your browser and never including the actual site, page, or link you came from. We make no session recordings, perform no automatic interaction tracking, do not run on admin pages, and do not link website analytics to your Daymend account. The App Store badge image is loaded directly from Apple. Your browser therefore sends Apple your IP address, browser details, and the requested badge language; we configure the request not to include the Daymend page address. If Apple later makes campaign attribution available and we enable it, following an App Store link will also send Apple a fixed label for where the link appeared, or the label of our link you arrived through. The Google Play badge image is served from daymend.com itself, so displaying it sends nothing to Google. Following a Google Play link sends Google a fixed label: where the link appeared, or which of our links you arrived through. That lets Google Play see which link led to an install. These web links do not send Apple or Google information about your Daymend account.
Data storage and third-party services
Your data is stored on Supabase (database and authentication), hosted in the EU. Push notifications are delivered through Expo. On Android, push notifications are relayed through Google Firebase Cloud Messaging, which processes Firebase installation IDs and messaging tokens to deliver them. Subscriptions are processed by RevenueCat, which communicates with Apple or Google for payment handling. Product analytics are processed by PostHog (EU) and are linked to your account. Crash and error reports are processed by Sentry and include your account identifier and email so we can trace issues. We use Upstash to apply rate limits, which involves processing your IP address. The app and API are hosted on Vercel. On iPhone, your home-screen widget stores a small amount of data locally on your device.
Data retention
Your data is kept as long as your account is active. Deleting your account (available in Settings) starts a 30-day restoration window: sign back in during that time and you'll get the option to restore your account, personal data intact. After the window ends, your personal data is permanently removed from our servers, including reading history, preferences, mood entries, and interactions. Two exceptions: error and diagnostic reports already sent to our error-tracking provider age out on its own rolling window (up to 90 days) instead, and usage-analytics records, tied to an internal account identifier, are kept for aggregate statistics.
Error and crash reports
Error and crash reports help us catch problems fast. Alongside reports sent when the app crashes or hits an error, we also send a small, randomly sampled share of performance and diagnostic data during normal use to our error-tracking provider, Sentry. Both can include your account identifier and email address alongside technical details, and we use them only to fix problems and keep the app fast. We keep these reports for a limited rolling window of at most 90 days, then delete them automatically. If you delete your account, any reports from before the deletion age out and get removed on the same schedule.
Your rights
Under GDPR (Daymend is operated from Sweden), you have the right to access your data, correct inaccurate data, request deletion of your data, export your data in a portable format, and object to processing. You can delete your account directly in the app (Settings > Delete Account), or contact us for any other requests. We respond to all requests within 30 days.
Children's privacy
Daymend is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
